fame, yes. fortune, no.

In case you missed this when it was first printed on an obscure travel website: Mr. Galore and I demonstrate the eco-friendlier way to say "I do." (Not to be mistaken for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer piece on our green wedding. My, we're famous.)

Money quote: "They ate 'vegetarian meals at local places because we're people that eat vegetarian meals at local places.'" Wow, Mrs. Galore. That's right up there with "two four five to stay alive."

syttende mai!

Board meeting over, I'm still in Columbus, poaching free wired internet in the hallway, all by my lonesome. Most of the other Mennonites have gone home, and I wish I had bought a ticket home for Saturday night instead of Sunday morning, but at least now I have time to blog.

Incidentally, the Mennonite meeting coincided with a quilters' conference in the same hotel, and I once was in the elevator with an Amish couple. Go figure.

Now, to go back in time to May 17:

The Pike Place Market cheese festival!

Followed by Ballard's Norwegian Independence Day parade!

Now wasn't that worth waiting a month for?

I am currently in Columbus, Ohio, on the 19th floor of a fancy downtown hotel. I am here to talk about the restructuring of Mennonite Church USA, specifically as it relates to the creatively named magazine The Mennonite. I really like the word "docket."

so here's the thing

We have two Mac laptops. Their names are Posh and Becks.

It is Posh's fault that our blog posts are somewhat sporadic (yes, Rachel, the management has heard your complaint) and not necessarily timely or chronological (which, let it be known, bothers Mrs. Galore to no end).

You see, whenever we upload photos from our camera, we upload them to Posh. And Posh also spends much of her time plugged into the projector downstairs, ready and waiting to project movies onto the wall. And often Mrs. Galore is too lazy to go unplug Posh and bring her upstairs at computer-checking time, and thus the blogging doesn't get done because the pictures are not available.

Which, in my head, is an entirely rational reason why I am just now sharing with you pictures from a trip up the Space Needle with Friend Julie, which happened on a gray day at the end of April.

Bonus picture! (Also from the end of April). Friend Danny and I have twin-ish coats.

memorial day weekend

As noted, I went camping over Memorial Day weekend with three coworkers. We left work Friday afternoon and drove south and west to Lake Quinault, passing through the wonderfully named town of Humptulips on the way. (Ah, my apologies: according to Google, Humptulips is not a town but a "census-designated place.")

Camping is fun! We used to go all the time when I was younger, but I hadn't been in so long. You will note, on the right, that we dried and reused our paper towels like good little environmentalists.

We coordinated our dishware to our chairs -- except for Holly, who had a pink cup and green chair. Totally embarrassing.

The first night we were there the entire sky turned pink at sunset. So we grabbed our cameras, intending to run down to the lake and take pictures. But we stopped at the bathroom first, and when we came out, the sky was almost entirely gray. Nearly all the pink had disappeared.

On Saturday we went hiking.

On Sunday we went to the beach.

We also saw the Big Cedar Tree and the World's Largest Spruce Tree.

Hooray for fun and friends.
